A Little Ferret Story

Hi Blog Friends,

A little off topic today, but I wanted to share a neat story with you.  Last night, Zoe, our Welsh Terrier (or Welsh Terror...depending on the day), zoomed out the back door as hubby let her out.  Hubby saw something running like crazy in front of  Zoe.  He couldn't really tell what it was, but knew it was something he hadn't seen in our backyard before.

Right before we went to bed, hubby set a trap in the backyard.  A little cracker with peanut butter on it.  Sometimes I think I married Grizzly Adams....honestly, the guy knows so much about animals.  Early this morning, low and behold, mystery solved.  In the trap was a little ferret!  Our son is Assistant Director at Game and Fish, so we called him, and he asked us to bring the critter out to his office, thinking that it might be wild.  Once we got there, and about seven people from Game and Fish came outside to see what we'd caught, we discovered it wasn't a wild animal at all, but probably someone's domesticated ferret.  Even one of the biologists came out to take a look.  The little ferret is so cute!  Here's a pic of the little guy (or girl), before we took it out to Game & Fish.   G&F couldn't take him/her, so we took it to the Robin Sommers Humane Society Care Unit.  They took the ferret and guaranteed it would not be euthanized.  We left our name and phone number for their records.  Here's a couple of pics........

And the rest of the story.......about an hour or so after we returned home, hubby got a phone call.  The ferret's owner's had called the Humane Society and were on their way out to pick up their fur baby.  Isn't that just the coolest thing?  The Humane Society officer told hubby that the ferret lived three blocks away from our house, so he'd traveled quite a distance for a little thing.  Happy ending!  This is the fourth or fifth animal to end up in our yard.  Hmmm.....maybe they think we're operating an animal sanctuary!
Thanks for stopping by today and reading my critter story.  Until next time.
